Did you watch Treme?

Treme is an amazing HBO series that follows several New Orleanians post-Katrina. The show really brings light to what life was like for those who nearly lost the city they loved and called home. And because the show follows several different characters from all walks of life instead of just following one character you really get to see post-Katrina New Orleanian life from many different angles. The show also intertwines all the very different characters through the happenings of daily life, thus showing how interconnected they really are through their mutual love for the city of New Orleans: "The city that lives in the imagination of the world."--one of my fav lines from the series.

The show aired this spring and has been renewed for another season. Not sure if this is true or not but I heard that TV shows and movies filmed in the Gulf area are denied insurance if shooting during hurricane season. Does anyone know if this is true? That means that if they didn't already shoot season 2 of Treme over the summer they will not be able to shoot it until January. Which means we have to wait until the spring/summer for season 2. HBO really knows how to keep us waiting don't they? Trueblood won't be back until next summer either :(

I love Treme and New Orleans in general for three reasons: the music, the food and the culture. When you are in New Orleans, you just feel different b/c the energy of the city is absolutely contagious, and the city is unlike any other place you have ever been. It is truly unique; truly special. For a little of NOLA at home check out Treme's Soundtrack. Everything's cheaper through Amazon so click on this link to purchase!

Remember Robyn?

Ignore the fist pumping and the fact that there is no mic on her mic stand, and this song is pretty good!

Apparently Robyn is big over in Europe!

This is the last time I heard Robyn...until now.

The artist of my moment

I am HUGE on Drake right now. If you have never heard of him, he is a rapper that also sings.

He released a couple singles before ever releasing a CD. You should know this single.

 {ahahahah Sorry about the content of that video!}

He released his first CD, 'Thank Me Later,' just this past June.

Thank Me Later [Explicit]

I love this song from his new CD.

And this song gets me through every workout!

This song {he did with Mary J. Blige} is also great to workout to. You have probably heard this song before as it was used in a recent commercial starring MJB.

So, go listen to some Drake this weekend and get your booty shakin!

where o where has lauren hill gone?

This article reveals Lauren Hill's reasoning behind her absence from the airwaves over the last ten years.

I loved her first album when I was in 7th grade, but I think her reasoning in the article is rather...pathetic? I mean, whose boss 'nurtures' them?

The first dance

Today, my friends, I thought I would share our "first dance" song with you. The song is from Ray LaMontagne's 2008 album, Gossip in the Grain. ahahaha That just reminded me of Clinton County. Whoa. Sorry for that brief interruption. If you need explanation of that please email me! Anyhooters...I don't know much about Ray LaMontagne besides that fact that I like his music.

Click here for a listen to our "first dance" song, "You are the Best Thing."

Is that not a great first dance song? I like that it is upbeat. I figured I would be weeping with joy all day so why choose another sappy song?

This song of Ray's was a runner up: Hold You In My Arms.

Zac Brown from Zac Brown Band

I don't plan on changing our "first dance" song at all, but I do have to say that after hearing this song on the CMT Music Awards the other night I did consider a change.

Wow! Did you cry? The video for this song really ups the intensity level of the song. Ok. I had to compose myself. Now imagine that song at your 4th of July party! I think it's the new Proud to Be an American.

Tonight I am off to Florissant, Missouri, to celebrate my cousin's graduation from 8th grade. We will be celebrating at The Glutton's Club. More on that Monday!

A pic of my cousin Louie and my uncle Luis, cousin Andrea, and Aunt Anita
Cute!

Remember, Monday is Flag Day. Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the style of American Flag we currently fly. Make sure your flag is up!

On that note, go enjoy your summer! It's Friday, ya'll! Go enjoy your freedom!

Rustic elegance/music theme

I forgot to mention that while our theme is "rustic elegance" a more subtle theme throughout the day is going to be "music" (imagine that.) The idea is that every table will be named after a musician/band. For example:

Mr. and Mrs. Michael Bruegge
The Rolling Stones Table

And on each table would be a sign with some of that band's lyrics typographically interpreted. AH! I'm so excited just thinking about it!

I found these posters here.

I'm also thinking about having a few trivia questions about each band at each table. The dinner hour can get a little boring at a wedding after everyone is done eating just waiting for the dance to begin. Also, if we close down the bar during dinner this could keep everyone "happy" until the bar re-opens! Plus, whatever table gets the most right gets a prize? Just a thought. I think it could be really fun and give people an opportunity to get to know the other people at their table. What do you think?
